Aldona Birkantaite is a Lithuanian-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Mallorca. She works with voice, acoustic guitar, piano and accordion, moving between singer-songwriter material, intimate rock, pop and sung poetry. In 2014 she won first prize in the group music category at Alicante’s Top Creation youth awards (Diputación de Alicante, Valencian Community) for Quisiera volar, recorded with Elche underground rap band Hierro Templado. She has a lasting collaboration with Mallorcan artist El Rey Salitre (Sebastià Buades), both on his solo work and with the band Las Malas Lenguas, as second voice, backing vocals and acoustic guitar. Credits include Ha muerto, Sueños imposibles, El último vals and Con las manos vacías, plus albums such as Vértigo, Volumen 1, Volumen 2 and Para que tú lo sepas. She also took part in the recording of Can Picafort, the local anthem of the town, written by Buades. Her work sits under a simple line: music, humour, love and poetry.
